The bird figurines are very simple and synthetic in form. They're made of local types of wood (usually ash, oak and walnut) and coated with linseed oil.
The black ones are charred.
The beaks and legs are hand forged in steel and brass.
Each figurine is entirely handcrafted by architect Marcin Skalski and so there are no two exactly alike - each is unique.
The wood is thoroughly polished up to bring to one's mind the feeling of an old wooden handle smoothed by the years of its usage.
Hight: approx. 14 cm
Handmade in Poland
About the artist: the architect Marcin Skalski is the founder of Kuznia Skały (Stones Forge) – an arts & craft project that derives inspiration from blacksmithing and woodworking in the countryside. Coming from Lesser Poland’s countryside, his main inspiration is traditional applied art – ordinary everyday objects such as a ferruled wooden wheel or a scythe. His work includes the beautiful wooden birds by Kuznia Skaly.
